Enjoyed his tenure with NYR cause he was always good for lulz. Great coach, but wears out his welcome after a few years.

By report he’s a still a hothead but the total openness works wonders a lot of the time.

That may or may not be, for my part I could get behind either viewpoint. Regardless of that he’s hilarious

I find it interesting to compare him and Babcock in the way they deal with the media... They both run the media fairly well but while Babcock likes to talk circles and let them take what they will Torts just tells them to fuck off if he doesn’t want to answer something. I love it.

Though I think it’s pretty obvious what the healthier long-term approach is of the two... oh who the hell cares Torts is still comical.

Nope, he’s still a hothead, but reportedly he’s mostly hot air. He’s been known to get into verbal fights with the players in the heat of the moment with no lasting issues. Seeing as they’re all passionate people by nature most of them are OK with it.

That said it is definitely a polarizing approach. There are definitely players that absolutely hate him, and there will be more. But for the most part it seems to work, so... meh?

Let’s clarify here—I find him hilarious.

I also could get behind both an attack and a defense of his methods. I can see what both sides are saying.

And with all that being said, I’d rather he was the coach somewhere else anyway. That way I get to enjoy the good stuff and not worry about him ruining the team I cheer for

He’d be better from a distance, no doubt. He was much more irritating in Vancouver than he is out east.

I’d rather some of this old guard be forced to hang em up rather than keep getting jobs through the revolving door good old boys club that is NHL coaching.

Even the mediocre ones (he might be barely “good”, but still riding on the lucky coattails of 2004) seem to have cradle to grave job security - just have a friend hire you elsewhere. He was annoying and awful in Vancouver, especially when the heat was on. He just ekes out a winning record, and IIRC wasn’t so good outside of the NHL.

It’s hard for new coaches to come up when these dinosaurs seem to have eternal life. Maybe I just don’t get the Mass charm and attitude, which he proudly wears on his shoulder.
